the Jean Ruiter Project
Jean Ruiter, the artist in photography, died on 12 April 2005. His complete legacy deserves its place in the history of photography. It is for this reason, that we, his friends and widow, started 'The Jean Ruiter Project'.
Goal
The goal of The Jean Ruiter Project is to keep his work and philosophy alive. We will try to achieve this by continuing what he himself loved to do, that is, by promoting and selling his photoworks.
Stock Sale
We have available a limited original collection that is still left in stock with Jean’s widow Hatsue Ruiter–Osawa. The works in this collection are printed and mounted, both framed and unframed in various ways and almost all signed by Jean himself. Hatsue can of course provide a certificate of authenticity.
There may be interest in completing a series. In some cases like that, and to a very limited extent, we can also make new prints. This is always subject to Hatsue’s approval and criteria.

A short history
Jean Ruiter (Amsterdam 1942) is mainly known for his monumental photoworks, that make a connection between important moments in art history and the present time.
Jonathan Green, director of the UCR / California Museum of Photography put it this way: "Ruiter is more interested in borrowing classic images to offer ironic commentary on the present".
Jean Ruiter was a man of grand visions. Abroad, especially in the United States, he was better known and enjoyed a greater reputation than in the Netherlands.
Jean died of lung cancer in 2005 on April 12.
Herman Hoeneveld initiated an In Memoriam exhibition in that same year, but he himself fell ill and died in 2006. It was then decided to cancel these plans. Hatsue then, sadly, closed the doors of her store room.
But this year, in spite of the economic crisis, we go back to work again.
It is time to promote and sell Jean’s work, which is of exceptional quality. We cannot allow his work to sit in a locked storeroom. It has not lost anything of its relevance and importance.

Op 12 april 2005 overleed de fotograaf Jean Ruiter. Zijn oeuvre is een afgerond geheel en verdient een plaatsje in de geschiedenis van de fotografie. Daarom hebben wij, zijn weduwe en vrienden 'The Jean Ruiter Project' opgericht.
Doel
Het doel van The Jean Ruiter Project is om het werk en gedachtegoed van Jean levend te houden. Dat zullen we doen door verder te gaan met wat hijzelf ook graag deed: zijn werk promoten en verkopen.
Stockverkoop
Wij hebben in stock, voor de verkoop, foto's uit de nalatenschap van Jean. Dit werk komt uit het bezit van zijn weduwe Hatsue Osawa. Ze zijn in zeer goede staat. Dit werk is verschillend van formaat, ingelijst (in verschillende lijsten), opgeplakt of oningelijst. Maar bovenal: deze foto's zijn nog door Jean zelf afgedrukt, of door een ander maar door hem geaccordeerd, en (meestal) gesigneerd. Indien nodig kan Hatsue een certificaat van echtheid verstrekken.
En indien gewenst kunnen wij foto's laten bijdrukken. Hatsue zal hiervoor de criteria bepalen.

Een kleine geschiedenis
Jean Ruiter (Amsterdam 1942) is vooral bekend om zijn monumentale fotowerken die een verbintenis leggen tussen belangrijke momenten in de kunstgeschiedenis en de huidige tijd. Of zoals Jonathan Green, directeur van het UCR/California Museum of Photography het omschreef, 'Ruiter is more interested in borrowing classic images to offer ironic commentary on the present'.
Jean Ruiter was een man met grote visies. In het buitenland, in het bijzonder de Verenigde Staten, genoot hij meer bekendheid en kreeg hij meer erkenning dan in Nederland.
Jean stierf op 12 april 2005 aan de gevolgen van longkanker.
Herman Hoeneveld was in 2005 intiatiefnemer voor een In Memoriam van Jean. Ook hij bleek ziek en stierf in mei 2006. Er is besloten deze overzichtstentoonstelling van het werk van Jean niet door te laten gaan.
Hatsue heeft toen, met zwaar gemoed, de deur van de opslag dicht gedaan.
Maar dit jaar, 2009, het jaar van de kredietcrisis, gaan we weer aan de slag. Het wordt tijd dat het werk van Jean weer gepromoot en verkocht gaat worden. Aan actualiteit heeft het werk nog niets verloren.
